BEATLES MONTHLY ISSUE 73

The sixth birthday of the magazine. The big news is the postponement of “Get Back”, but a planned in-depth five-page track-by-track feature was kept in the magazine. There is news that the band are back in the studio recording a further LP, intended as their next release. Bob Gibson has a two-page cartoon.

Meanwhile…
Most of August is taken up with recording and mixing the tracks for Abbey Road. On 8th August, the Beatles are photographed on the crossing for the album cover and on the 20th the four Beatles work together at Abbey Road studios for the final time. Two days later they meet at John’s home at Tittenhurst Park, for what will be their final photo shoot together. At the end of the month George, John and Ringo travel to the Isle of Wight to watch Bob Dylan perform.

On this reprint the cropping of the bottom edge of the back cover removes the end of Ringo’s rather spectacular cravat. Additionally, for some reason, the originals of Issue 73 are also about 3mm taller than the other 76 issues.
